Ending Female Genital Mutilation: A New Ruling in The Gambia Can Reignite Progress Towards SDG Target 5.3 (Journal of Women’s Health 2024).

In collaboration with Women in Liberation and Leadership and Wassu Gambia Kafo, the GHSEN team discusses The Gambia's recent rejection of a bill that sought to repeal a 2015 law banning female genital mutilation (FGM), highlighting the role of protests and activism in the global fight against FGM. We emphasize that The Gambia's success serves as a model for advancing progress toward the United Nations’ SDG Target 5.3, which aims to eliminate FGM worldwide by 2030, and we propose strategies to protect women and girls from FGM globally.
