Preparing for Climate Disasters in East Africa (Think Global Health 2024).
In collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Tanzania, GHSEN details the devastating 2023-2024 flooding that impacted Tanzania, Kenya, Somalia, and other East African countries, destroying infrastructure, farmland, and claiming dozens of lives. We propose solutions including investment in disaster management response and the development of flood-resistant infrastructure.
Capacity Building for Infectious Disease Control in Sub-Saharan Africa (Pathogens & Global Health 2024).
In collaboration with the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre, GHSEN responds to the recent rise in cases of COVID-19, Marburg, and malaria in sub-Saharan Africa. We propose solutions to build capacity for infectious disease control such as expanding data infrastructure for public health, implementing pandemic-response workforces, and advancing local vaccine development.
In collaboration with the Duke Global Health Institute and the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre, the GHSEN team argues that the rapid motorization of African countries has contributed to a rise in road traffic collisions across the continent. We disseminate recommendations to bolster road safety such as investment in infrastructure, legal regulation, and enforcement of laws.
A holistic framework to integrate HIV and cardiovascular disease care in sub-Saharan Africa (AIDS 2023).
Collaborating with experts across Duke Global Health Institute (USA), Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (Tanzania), and the Tanzanian Ministry of Health (Tanzania), the GHSEN team presents strategies to integrate HIV and cardiovascular disease care in light of the the double burden of these diseases in sub-Saharan Africa.
Faustine Ndugulile: Positioning Tanzania as a Model for African Public Health (BMJ Global Health 2025)
In collaboration with the Tanzanian public health leaders across the Ministry of Health, Benjamin Mkapa Foundation, and World Bank Tanzania, GHSEN commemorates the Faustine Ndugulile, the elected Regional Director of WHO Africa. We discuss his contributions to public health in Tanzania including combatting COVID-19 misinformation and leading the fight against HIV.
Expanding Healthcare Access in Rural sub-Saharan Africa (Perspectives in Public Health 2024)
In collaboration with the Tanzanian Ministry of Health and Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre, GHSEN presents evidence-based strategies to expand healthcare access in rural regions of sub-Saharan Africa, including enhanced community-based health financing, mobile health clinics to provide primary care services and transportation, and culturally tailored health education.
