Fallah MP, Rahim FO, Mwamba D, et al. Preparing for Disease X (Think Global Health 2025)

In collaboration with the Directer General of Africa CDC, the head of the National Public Health Institute of Congo, and researchers at the University of Kinshasa, GHSEN responds to the outbreak of a mysterious illness in the Panzi Health Zone of Congo. We present strategies to prepare for the next “Disease X,” such as developing stronger primary care systems in rural regions of Africa.


Post-Election Responsibilities for Public Health in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (Nature Medicine 2024)

In collaboration with researchers and public health experts across Duke Global Health Institute, University of Kisangani, and the Kinshasa School of Public Health, GHSEN published on evidence-based strategies to safeguard healthcare amidst the humanitarian crisis in Congo.


Democratic Republic of the Congo: a strengthened response to mpox could help revitalise the country's healthcare system (BMJ 2024)

In collaboration with the Vice Minister of Health of the Government of Congo, GHSEN argues that Congo’s mpox outbreak is a public health emergency fueled by decades of conflict and healthcare underdevelopment, but it also provides a blueprint to rejuvenate Congo’s healthcare system.


Challenges and Ongoing Actions to Address the Mpox Emergency in Africa (Annals of Global Health 2024)

GHSEN collaborated with researchers at Harvard Medical School and the Director General of the Africa CDC to disseminate updates, challenges, and ongoing responses to mpox in Central Africa following the declaration of a Public Health Emergency of Continental Concern in August 2024.
