Our Mission

We aim to use research to promote awareness of global health challenges and disseminate evidence-based recommendations on bolstering health systems, expanding healthcare access, and tackling health inequities globally. Over three years, GHSEN has published 30+ articles on topics such as strategies to safeguard healthcare amidst humanitarian crises in Congo, policies to protect HIV care in the wake of PEPFAR’s uncertain future in Uganda, and updates on the global response to the 2024 Mpox emergency in Central Africa.

Collaboration is at the Heart of our Work

We believe in a collaborative approach to modern global health practice. Over the past several years, we have researched together with leaders across sub-Saharan Africa, including

  • Director General of the Africa CDC

  • Minister of Health of Rwanda

  • Director at the Tanzanian Ministry of Health (Pictured)

  • Vice Minister of Health of the Congo

  • Gambia’s most Prominent Women’s Rights Advocate

Empowering the Generation of Global Health Leaders

2023 GHSEN Fellow, Victoria Ayodele, presents her GHSEN project at the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minoritized Scientists (ABRCMS) in Pittsburgh, PA.

GHSEN is committed to empowering the next generation of global health leaders from the United States and sub-Saharan Africa. We facilitate collaborative projects between U.S. research fellows and our colleagues in African countries to promote equitable, culturally informed research partnerships. Our teams work together to discuss global health challenges and develop policy solutions under the guidance of global health experts.

Moreover, we educate both U.S. and African students in our research process, covering areas such as literature review, source navigation and synthesis, manuscript writing, and journal submission to engage them in the continuum of research. Most research fellows have the opportunity to publish their work in academic journals, enhancing their research portfolios.
