DUKE UNIVERSITY

Rowan Haffner is a graduate student at the University of Pennsylvania and a global health researcher committed to reducing disparities in public health access and outcomes. Motivated by personal experience and fieldwork, his interests explore how stigma, structural barriers, and cultural context shape care in low-resource settings, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa. Rowan is especially interested in the ethics of care delivery and the translation of research into policy and practice for marginalized populations worldwide.

WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY IN ST LOUIS

Matthew Berman earned degrees in Anthropology (Global Health & Environment), Biology, and Design from Washington University in St. Louis. His experience spans translational research, health policy, and clinical innovation across academic and startup settings. Most recently, he advanced domestic value-based primary health care initiatives at Aledade, working at the intersection of policy and practice. He is deeply committed to bridging clinical medicine, health policy, public and global health, and medical anthropology.

UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH

Adeel is an undergraduate student at the University of Pittsburgh, currently studying abroad at Korea University. She has worked with volunteer-run liver dialysis centers in Pakistan, where she toured facilities, engaged with patients, and supported outreach and marketing efforts. She has also been actively involved in multiple nonprofits and student-led organizations, organizing fundraisers and raising support for regions such as Palestine and Pakistan. She is passionate about global health equity and community-driven change and hopes to continue working with organizations that serve underserved populations around the world.

KECK SCHOOL OF MEDICINE USC

Jason Chen studied global health as an undergraduate at the Keck School of Medicine of USC, followed by a Master of Science program focused on interdisciplinary healthcare systems. Informed by lived experiences, he is committed to advancing health literacy and addressing structural inequities in underserved communities. His research explores the intersection of precision health, medicine, and health policy to inform the specific health needs of diverse populations. Currently, Jason serves as the Curriculum Development Lead at the Everyday Responder Project, where he leads initiatives to improve bystander medical preparedness both domestically and globally. His works are grounded in a mission to help build a healthier, more equitable, and inclusive society.

CORNELL UNIVERSITY

Rohith Karthik is a junior at Cornell University with a strong passion for cancer research, public health, health equity, and all aspects of healthcare. He is committed to advancing health equity both locally and globally, and aims to contribute to meaningful change through a future career in medicine and public health leadership. Passionate about addressing healthcare disparities, he hopes to one day serve as a physician in underserved communities.

Ali is a Microbiology major with minors in Arabic and Chemistry at the University of Pittsburgh. She aspires to become a physician and community health advocate, with a focus on addressing healthcare inequities. She is involved in research that introduces microbiology to under-resourced high schools, aiming to inspire future scientists and broaden access to STEM education. Through this work, she hopes to empower communities and promote long-term health equity.

UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS AT URBANA-CHAMPAIGN

Toheeb Ojelade is a rising senior at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign studying Molecular and Cellular Biology with a minor in Public Health. He has research experience in Dr. Som Nanjappa’s Pathobiology lab, learning techniques like PCR, cell culture, and Western blot while studying immune responses to infections. As an executive board member of MAPS, he supports underrepresented pre-health students. He is also part of GHSEN, focusing on health disparities and strengthening health systems in the U.S. and Sub-Saharan Africa, aiming to become a physician and public health advocate for underserved communities.

STANFORD UNIVERSITY

Ruby is an internationally recognized researcher, medical innovator, and social advocate at Stanford University. She is committed to advancing precision oncology and health equity by creating accessible, innovative tools that improve cancer care for underserved populations. As an aspiring physician-scientist, she has pursued this vision by co-engineering biomimetic liver cancer models that could accelerate the discovery of targeted therapies for cancer patients worldwide. While still in high school, she presented her Hepatocellular Carcinoma research at Oxford University, University College London, and a Global Metaverse. As a Cleveland Clinic and CHOC intern, she now works alongside clinicians to innovate in genomics, AI, and precision medicine. Ruby hopes to build a future where cutting-edge cancer therapies are accessible to every patient, regardless of their income, location, or background.

FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY HERBERT WERTHEIM COLLEGE OF MEDICINE

Raghuram Reddy is a fourth-year medical student at the Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. He previously graduated from the University of Miami with a degree in microbiology & immunology. His research interests include global health, neuro-oncology, cancer therapeutics, medical history, artificial intelligence, and rare diseases. He has previously published research in World Neurosurgery and International Journal for Quality in Healthcare. He is also a member of the World Health Organization Fides Network. He is dedicated to building more resilient healthcare systems, expanding access to care in underserved areas, and advancing STEM education.

Rik Munshi, an aspiring healthcare professional, is an undergraduate student at The University of Chicago, majoring in Biological Sciences. He is a Hutchins Scholar (Public Leadership Program) with the aim of developing a sustainable healthcare system for vulnerable communities. Rik’s research focuses on global health inequities and sustainable livelihoods.

DUKE UNIVERSITY

Lara Kendall is a student at Duke University and a Special Projects Fellow with Global Response Medicine, studying neuroscience and international comparative studies. Her work focuses on trauma care, disaster medicine, and health systems in conflict zones. She has contributed to research on prolonged field care, hemostatic technologies, and trauma outcomes in war-affected regions such as Ukraine. Lara co-leads Duke’s Remote Area Medical (RAM) clinic, which provides free medical, dental, and vision care to underserved communities. Her work bridges academic research and humanitarian response, aiming to improve emergency care delivery in austere and resource-limited settings worldwide.

She brings multilingual skills, a global perspective, and analytical expertise. She is driven to bridge evidence-based policy and on-the-ground operations, ensuring every patient’s voice is heard and every community better served.

Farhia Mohamed is a public health professional and clinical dietitian with experience spanning global health research, hospital-based clinical care, and community outreach. She is currently pursuing her MPH at the University of Michigan, where she focuses on nutrition and social epidemiology. With a strong background in cancer nutrition, maternal and child health, and health equity, Farhia has worked with organizations including the United Nations, Nationwide Children’s Hospital, and the Kuwait Cancer Control Center. She brings a culturally sensitive, research-informed approach to improving health and nutrition outcomes in underserved communities.
